   
The Changing Diabetes® Bus visited Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, on 30-31 May 2009. Located at the main city square in Skopje, the Changing Diabetes® Bus attracted 7,875 visitors during its visit.
On 30 May, a press conference announced the arrival of the Changing Diabetes® Bus. The press conference was hosted by Mr Vankovski, President of Patients’ Association, Ms Vuevska, President of Balans MK, Prof Dimitrovski, Head of Clinic of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders Skopje and Manuela Stojanovic Pejovski, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Macedonia. The Changing Diabetes® Bus offered visitors to learn more about a healthy lifestyle including the importance of physical activity (Nintendo wii games)and healthy eating. Healthy snacks/drinks/soups were prepared by professional chefs and available for the visitors to taste. Six diabetes nurses and two specialists offered consultations inside the bus. The visitors were also invited to take a diabetes risk assessment, have their blood sugar or HbA1c measured and finally go through a health check including BMI and waist measurement. 4,125 people got their blood sugar tested and 113 people learned that they had diabetes without knowing. In general, the majority of people who already were diagnosed with diabetes were in poor control. The Changing Diabetes® Bus event in Macedonia was co-organised with the patient association ’Association of parents with diabetic children’, Balans MK, Clinic of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders Skopje and Scientific Association of Endocrinologists and Diabetologists in MK. |
