Changing Diabetes Bus in Groningen
Hi. I’m Mariel Van Stee, a Dutch Novo Nordisk Youth Panellist.

I woke up early this morning so as to be on time in Groningen, for the first day of the Changing Diabetes Bus in the Netherlands. At my arrival, I was already being interviewed by a journalist from the Dutch press agency GDP, who writes for all Dutch regional newspapers. She was very much interested by the whole project and stayed at the event for quite a long time. It was a nice interview.

Afterwards, I spent some time handing out flyers so as to invite people to have a look into the Changing Diabetes Bus and to sign the petition for a UN Resolution on Diabetes.

Many people were enthousiast and signed the petition. I was surprised that a lot of people had their blood glucose measured and seemed having a very high level of blood sugar. A guy had a glucose level of 18 mmol/l! These people were immediately redirected towards their doctors.

Right after lunch, I had some interviews for the radio and TV. Quite exciting. Reporters asked  me about my reasons for joining the Novo Nordisk Youth Panel. I had thus a good opportunity to explain why I find it is such a good initiative. The radio interview was ‘live’: we had to wait a little bit for the advertisement and the news, and then we went live. Afterwards, I made some other recordings for the TV (which will be sent out tonight) and wrote this report.

By the end of the afternoon, feeling satisfied, I stepped into the car back home.
