In Germany, there are about 6,000,000 people with diabetes in addition to a large number of undiagnosed people with diabetes. The number of juvenile type 2 diabetes is increasing at an alarming rate.

On the first day in Berlin, the Changing Diabetes Bus was parked in front of the Brandenburg Tor. Many interested people came to the bus and asked for information. A “walking day” took place nearby, whose participants wanted to have their blood sugar checked. All those who passed were very interested, many people asked questions. Many tourists also used the bus for a little break.

The food and the many different health screenings attracted a lot of people. It was not only the good weather that contributed to an overall great day at the Brandenburg Tor.

On the second day of the Berlin tour, the Changing Diabetes Bus was parked nearby Alexander Platz, unfortunately a bit apart. However, some interested visitors came.

This day showed that it is often and unfortunately difficult to get people discuss an important issue such as diabetes. As confirmed by the German Youth Panellist Richard, “many people do not react when you talk to them, they say that they don’t have it, or just do not want to go into it, they are afraid that the blood sugar test might indicate that their blood sugar is slightly elevated”.

Nevertheless, the food and the offer of fitness and health checks attracted some people. As the ISPAD annual congress was nearby, some participants came to the bus and looked around. The big banner at the Park Inn Hotel could, of course, not be overlooked and attracted some additional passer-by and congress participants.

After all, this day was a bit quieter, the weather was not as good as the previous day, but the Novo Nordisk bus staffers had many interesting discussions with the public.

On its third and final day in Berlin, the Changing Diabetes Bus opened its doors in Alexander Platz as well. On this day, the weather had not improved, it was cold and rainy.

Nevertheless, all Novo Nordisk bus staffers did their best. “I think that such a tour like the Changing Diabetes Bus World Tour is a good thing in order to raise awareness and to inform. It is also a good occasion to convey the efforts that have been made around the UN resolution. If the bus stopped another time in Germany, I would help again ”, said an enthusiastic Richard, the Novo Nordisk Youth Panellist that went on the bus tour in Berlin.
